Our  First  Official  Production  for  2004  is  the Bittersweet  Comedy  by  Bernard  Slade

“Same  Time,  Next  Year”

Featuring
     Ron Hughes       and      Rachel Burfield
Directed  by  Jude  Hines

George and Doris meet by accident while on a business trip and for the next 25 years they meet once every year.

The play begins in 1951 and touches on historical, cultural and social events, providing the backdrop for George and Doris’s romantic encounters. This is a couple who are happily married – but not to each other. The audience watches as the relationship unfolds as they fall in and out of love, fight and make up, and face life, career and family crises and changes.

Bernard Slade, better known as the author of many television series, including “The Flying Nun” and “The Partridge Family”, wrote this witty, warm and charming play.

“Same Time, Next Year” was nominated for a Tony, won the Drama Desk Award and originally played on Broadway for nearly four years and recently completed yet another successful Broadway season.

Last Years Medal Winners for their continuing and outstanding contributions to The Players, John Grant and David Lawruk, working on the current set for “Same Time, Next Year”

L to R:  Rosemary Taylor, Judy Nimmo, Sandra Preston, Isabella Norton,
Rob Aust and Vicky Wray.

After official duties were over we enjoyed a performance from our Christmas Party ‘Red Faces’ winner Audrey Weigh who reprised her very funny ballet portrayal of The Black Swan; Richard Lane and Wally Elliott also entertained us with their rendition of Brush Up You Shakespeare.  The evening concluded with a typical St Jude’s supper, with lots to eat !

Special  Presentation  for  Adelaide  Fringe  2004  “A  Touch  of  Dickens”

Those who attended a performance of the adaptation by John G. Sands enjoyed a real treat.  To step into the past and experience a Dickens performance as Dickens’ himself would have performed his extracts, was an exceptional opportunity.  We wish John continued success as he takes his one man show to audiences around the state of SA.

Top L to R: Christel Mex, Judy Nimmo John G. Sands, Teresa Zetlein, Diana Mepsted.

Left:: Ric Mepsted and John step it out in the Fringe Parade 2004

A highlight of the Festival was the Fringe Parade and eight members from The Players with two ‘support crew’ (Greg Barratt and Sandra Preston), promoted the show to record numbers who lined the streets.

Ticket Prices

It was with much regret that we had to increase the cost of our tickets recently, after many years at rockbottom prices.  An Increase of $2 was across the board and was inevitable due to higher insurance and production costs.  We hope that you will continue to provides the best value entertainment around.
