Awards
We thank you for “playing your part” in helping St Jude’s Players Inc win the ‘Quiet Achiever’ award in the 2001 Advertiser Oscarts for “always playing to packed houses”.
In the City Messenger Light Year 2001 awards for Theatre, the following actors appearing in a St Jude’s production received commendations:
· Norman Caddick as Al Lewis in “The Sunshine Boys”
· Georgia Dodd as Laura in “The Glass Menagerie”.
In addition, Geoff Brittain, a St Jude’s member, won the award for Best Play for his production of “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” for the Stirling Players.

“The
Deep Blue Sea”
by
Terence Rattigan
Hester
Collyer’s husband is a rich, talented lawyer. Her lover, Freddie, is neither
Hester’s moral nor intellectual equal, but Hester loves him with an intensity
that few, and especially not Freddie, are capable of matching. They are death
to each other. Hester is driven to attempt suicide. Between the devil and
the deep blue sea the latter looks very attractive.

“Nunsense”
by
Dan Goggin
The
Little Sisters of Hoboken are in a deadly bind. Sister Julia, Child of God,
the chef, accidentally killed 52 nuns with her tainted vichyssoise soup. Luckily,
17 nuns were out playing bingo and were spared from the poisoned broth. Unfortunately,
the surviving sisters only had funds to bury 48 of the 52 stiff sisters. They're
holding the remaining four nuns in the freezer, hoping to raise enough money
for the burials before the health inspector catches up with them. Your help
is desperately needed! Come out to Nunsense, the surviving sisters' musical
fund-raiser, and lend your support!
Directed
by Barry Hill and Rosie Aust.

“Move
Over Mrs Markham”
by
Ray Cooney and John Chapman
The
outrageously funny bedroom farce that electrified London and New York, has since
delighted audiences all over the world. You will hardly have time between laughs.
The Markham's fifteen year marriage seems just about undone, along with everything
and everybody else in this wild, zany free-for-all. There is no message - just
"laughs," "laughs," "laughs."
Directed
by Ian Rigney.
Website
The players website was launched late in 2001 with a story appearing on the State Governments website SA Central and in Samela Harris’ column in The Advertiser. Thanks to committee members Kerry Edwards, Geoff Brittain and Les Zetlein for their efforts. The website will be updated four times a year, in January and with each production. Log on to stjudesplayers.asn.au to see pictures from productions, review quotes, etc.
Subscription Membership
It’s not too late to become a subscription member for 2002 and enjoy our fabulous program at member’s prices. Send back your form now, print one from our website or contact us and we’ll mail you one.
Raffle winner
Congratulations to Dawn Davidson for winning the raffle during “The Sunshine Boys”.
St Jude’s Players Christmas party
On 15th December the players had their annual Christmas party. Thanks to Jude Menz and her cast for the terrific entertainment. Those of you who saw “The Glass Menagerie” will remember Brendan Blue. This young man took part in the Christmas fun and then heard that he had been accepted into the prestigious acting course at NIDA (The National Institute of Dramatic Art). Good luck Brendan!
St Jude’s Church Christmas play
On 23rd December the players and the parish community worked together to present a special Christmas event in the church. Rosie Aust worked closely with the Ven Ian Mussared, Gregor Dawson and Eugene Raggio to produce a family celebration of the love and sharing of Christmas. The day was very popular and well attended. We’ll return “by popular demand” this year!
Annual General Meeting
On 13th February at 8pm you’re invited to attend our AGM in St Jude’s Hall. As an interested friend the meeting provides you with a chance to meet the committee members, participate in discussion and to be aware of important events relating to the players. As a friend or subscription member of the players you’re not able to vote on any decisions but can participate in the process. If you’d like to vote, then you need to become a Green Room (formerly called Active) member at a cost $5 per year. This will allow you to become involved in a variety of activities associated with the players. Please see our website or contact us for more membership information.
Record update
We are currently updating our records and would like to hear from you if:
