We
end our Year with …….
A
Load of Bullamakanka
Written by Harold Minear
Directed
by Rosie Aust
with Musical Director - David D’Angelo
Following
the great success of Fair Crack Of The Whip in 2000, St Jude’s Players asked
Harold Minear if he would write another musical revue.
A
Load of Bullamakanka is the result. A fun filled revue sending up the things
we “love to hate” ….. politicians, sport, city councils to name just a few.
Lots
of music, songs, dance, skits - a fabulous “revue romp” in typical St Jude’s
style.
Rosie
Aust directed the very successful musical Nunsense last year and is thoroughly
enjoying her first foray into revue.
David
D’Angelo is an accomplished musician and songwriter. He has written original
music for this revue and will be playing both piano and bass guitar. Our
evergreen and popular Mel Tickle will be on drums with Ian Fleming playing
guitar.
The
cast has a range of experience, however for one cast member this will be
their first stage appearance. Some troupers treading the boards will be
Megan Humphries, Greg Janzow and Deb Walsh.

Laughter on the 23rd Floor

The
Cast and Director of Laughter on the 23rd Floor
Our last production Laughter on the 23rd Floor was a look back into the early history of television and the influence of American humour that has stretched through five decades and still felt on today’s variety shows around the world. Judy Menz’s production of this controversial Neil Simon play gave the cast the chance to pursue classic, punch line standup comedy.
Matt Byrne from Messenger Press wrote:
“The show is stolen by Greg Janzow as the hyper hypochondriac Ira. His openly wounded performance lifts the show to a lunatic level Sid Caesar would have loved….Standout performances come from Les Zetlein in fine fashionable fettle as Milt, Rachel Brunsden as the wisecracking Carol and Michelle Martinez as the surprising secretary Helen…..There’s some nice work from Vic Rowe as the Russian Jew head writer Sol Skolsky, and promising efforts from Justin Nicholas as the fighting Irish Brian Doyle and Roland Partis as the boy genius Kenny Franks.”
Raffle Winner
The winner of the magnificent raffle, conducted during the production of Laughter on the 23rd Floor and drawn on the final night of the show was Christine Stead

We Remember Chick
It
is with sadness that we record the passing of Edith (Chick) Elvish who died
suddenly on the 4th September, 2003.
Chick was a Life Member of St Jude’s Players and a loyal supporter. She migrated to Australia in the mid-forties with her husband Reg Elvish, a Colonel in the Australian Army and they settled at Somerton Park.
Chick’s interest in the theatre started in England at an early age. Soon after her arrival in Adelaide she became involved in local theatre, at first performing in a number of plays for St Philip’s Church Somerton and also for St Peter’s Drama Group at Glenelg. Chick joined St Jude’s Players in the late 1950’s and appeared in many of our productions. She was a talented actress, stylish and articulate and gave us memorable performances, as Lady Bracknell and Madam Arcati, among others. Her friends will miss her and we all extend our sincere sympathy to her family.
Thankyou
Tarlee
Dack would like to express her profound thanks to all our readers for the
cards and calls of sympathy and support on the sad loss of her husband Stan.
Answer
to Brain Teaser July 2003
In
our last issue you were looking for the four missing words all containing
the same six letters.
Answer
was:
“I saw her dance like SPRITE upon the green;
Her gown was white, with STRIPE of yellow dyed;
Her apples like the RIPEST apple seen,
And now before the PRIEST she stands, a bride”.
Brain Teaser supplied by Jan Houltby
This
time a really old riddle for you to solve ……. what am I ?
“Twenty
four white horses standing on a red hill, here they go, there they go,
then they stand still”
Did
you know in 1953 ….
The
J.B. Priestley comedy classic, When We Are Married, introduced Murray George
to Brighton audiences. Murray was Stage Manager for the production. He
went on to a distinguished career delighting audiences around the country
with his creativity in television and theatre.
