Soulmates
A biting tale of revenge by David Williamson
Williamson applies his merciless humour to the literary world in a play about the slippery business of books, authors, and the readers who love them both. Commerce competes with art; serious writing with popular writing.
Set in Melbourne and New York, this is a tale of revenge as the best-selling expatriate author Katie Best (based on Williamson's real-life friend Kathy Lette) engineers a scheme to bring her most craven critic Danny O’Loughlin undone.
The play poses the question: "Why should that which is popular, be dismissed as having no literary value?"
Soulmates is witty with snappy one-liners and features an insight into the literary world with its publishing deals and snobbery. Marriage, love and tangled affairs (both venomous and vengeful) will hold the audience's attention to the last.
The Cast: Joanne St Clair, Brian Knott, Debbie Walsh, Barnaby Grant, Georgia Stockham, Brian Godfrey and Andrew Horwood.
